The Peltier dehumidifier is a godsend for small room dehumidification versus standard compressor model dehumidifiers. Peltier Technology

The Peltier technology used in these bathroom dehumidifiers have been used for years in the computer industry by hard-core over clockers that want maximum performance and minimum heat for their high performance computer processors.

The way they work in a nutshell is as follows:

When a Peltier heat pump (which is usually used for thermoelectric cooling) is used in electronic dehumidifiers there are a couple of things happening. First, it will generate a surface which is colder than the surrounding air thereby creating condensation on one side of the Peltier heat pump. (Think of it like a soda can from the refrigerator on a hot, humid day outside.) Second, the condensation that is generated with the pre-mentioned action is then channeled into a tank for collection by your bathroom dehumidifier.  The included fan blows over the heat pump area removing excess heat from the unit and expelling it into the room. When the tank is full and indicator light will alert you to your need to empty the tank before dehumidification can resume. While there are many other scientific actions and reactions that go on, this is the basis of how an electronic Peltier dehumidifier works on a very simple level.

While the Peltier technology is very efficient in small bathroom dehumidifiers and other units created for smaller areas, their performance is not adequate to be used on a larger scale due to its poor coefficient of performance (also known as energy efficiency). If you are looking for a larger dehumidifier such as a model for your whole home then you will have to look elsewhere to a more traditional compressor based model. If you are simply looking to address moisture issues in very small areas such as a closets or trunks you may need a different approach to moisture absorption. Clothing or other damp sensitive items should be stored alongside a mini dehumidifier which is renewable and rechargeable and will require no power.
