This would be the veterinary assistant, who is the lowest on the vet tech salary pay scale. This position only requires a high school education and could be obtained after graduation. This person would have no possibility of advancement unless they went back to school. The next step up would be the veterinary technician that needs a two year bachelor’s degree and certification by passing the VTNE test given by each state. The remainder chooses to specialize and receive a substantially higher vet technician salary by working in jobs in laboratories and biomedical facilities, wildlife preserves or zoos, marine parks, or humane societies, and more. These specialty jobs may require concentration on certain courses while getting their education because the jobs all have different aspects to them. This may mean that they will be working with unusual creatures, with different needs than the ordinary pet that comes to a veterinary clinic.
