How To Fit Terry Nappies Onto Your Newborn Baby (traditional cloth diapers)

Category: Baby Items

When you have a newborn baby you don’t want to be learning a whole lot of new things, because babies can take up a lot of time and energy and it can be stressful to plan too much into your day.  However, it’s always worth looking into terry nappies – preferably before baby is born, so that you know a little about how to use them.

Never mind if you already have the newborn baby, it’s never too late to start using terry nappies.  You get the terry square and pop it down on the change table, change mat, or wherever you change your baby.  You fold it into the Jo Fold, for which instructions can easily be found on YouTube, and get a Snappi or Nappy Nippa ready, and a woolen or PUL cover should you wish to use a cover.  In summer, many people choose not to use a cover, so that they can feel more easily when baby is wet and can change them faster for baby’s comfort.

Once the terry nappy is ready, lie the baby down in the center of the folded nappy.  You can adjust the nappy around the baby once he or she is lying down.  Now bring the nappy up between baby’s legs, and the sides of the nappy around baby’s waist.  Make sure they are overlapping a little, so that the Snappi will not come into contact with baby’s body.  Now hook the Snappi onto the front of the nappy, and pull one side tab up onto the side of the folded terry, and then pull the other tab up on the other side.  You should aim for a little tension, but not so much that it pulls on baby.  Now pop your cover on using the snaps or velcro (or pull the cover up – whichever way yours works).

And that is how to use terry nappies on a baby!
