Lioness Hidden Treasures Makes Its Way To The Top
Category: Albums
This is posthumous album by the late songstress Amy Winehouse. It was released in the UK on December 5th, 2011 and in the US on December 6th, 2011 via Universal Republic. The album is a collection of unreleased materials and two original songs which was put together by Salaam Remi and Mark Ronson who were Amy’s producers and friends.
The album is not a follow-up to 2007′s “Back to Black”, but a retrospective look at her past work. The album features 12 tracks, some of which were even recorded back in 2002. It also contains the duet with Tony Bennett – “Body and Soul” which is her last studio recoding. “Lioness Hidden Treasures” has topped the UK charts though it is not official yet, but information has been confirmed. On it first day the album sold 140,000 copies and some songs were featured on BBC Radio.
Another interesting thing is that for every copy sold, a pound will go to the Amy Winehouse Foundation. This foundation was founded by Amy’s father Mitch Winehouse and its aim is to help children with ill health or addiction problems. Mitch was active on Twitter following the release of the album. On his Twitter he posted: “My heart is sad but bursting with pride.”
No doubt the fans will enjoy the album and savor the “new” material. Some songs will be dramatic and sad, while others such as remakes of “The Girl From Ipanema” and “Our Day Will Come” will be a real treat as they showcase Amy’s playful side. Through the album her voice tends to change, it can be dramatic, dark and deep, but also tender and playful. It fits perfectly with the jazz-soul vibe the music has and she makes the most out of her stunning abilities. Before she died Amy was working on her third album, but hadn’t made any recordings. It’s hard to believe that we will never hear those recordings and that ‘Lioness: Hidden Treasures’ is the last thing we have left to enjoy.
