Making Your Living Area Baby Safe

Category: Baby Items
Once you have a baby, you start to realize that there are all kinds of things that the baby may get into. You love the elegant home decor of your living room, but it’s not hard to see that you will have to make some changes. Unsure where to start? Here are a few ways to get started.

When babies first start moving around the house, they are prone to putting things in their mouth. For small items, this can be a real issue. Choking can be a serious problem, so it’s important to be sure there aren’t things on the floor or attached to furniture that could be pulled off. Electric wires can be an issue, especially if the baby can pull on them or even chew it. Make sure any wires are out of reach. You should also cover any electric outlets to prevent the baby from touching or sticking something into it. Outlets can be a draw for babies, so it’s definitely wise to keep them covered.

It’s important to give a critical eye to your furniture. There are several ways in which your child may get injured by furniture. Coffee or console tables usually have sharp edges that the baby can run into. This is easily remedied. You can either remove the furniture for a while, or possibly move it to a less intrusive spot. You can also buy corner guards, which allow you to keep the furniture in the living room. You should also look to make sure that no furniture can fall onto the baby.

Once you get thinking about the different items in your living room, you’ll probably think of many more ways to get your home baby proof. And the baby can help you out as well – just watch the areas that attract your baby, and make sure there’s nothing the baby can do to hurt him or herself. It’s a big job, but it’s a worthwhile one!
