There are a lot of people who are unaware of the many uses to which clear quartz and other stones and gemstones can be put. Sure, they are highly decorative and can be centerpieces of fine jewelry such as necklaces and pendants. But they can also serve other purposes.

For example, human beings have been using quartz as part of their musical culture for tens of thousands of years. Consider crystal singing bowls. These uniquely fashioned bowls can be used to create elegant and soothing notes.  Plenty of alternative healers and meditation group leaders use these crystal bowls to help people deepen their meditative practice. Or, they can simply be used to promote relaxation. Listening to the rich and slow notes can be a gentle way to ease the burden of stress and fatigue.

A crystal singing bowl is in many senses a cousin to the Tibetan singing bowl. In both cases, highly trained craftsmen create bowls that can be struck by a mallet in order to create a distinct tone. The difference is that Tibetan bowls are frequently made from wood. Some listeners believe the sound is slightly different as well.

Plenty of practitioners also consider members of the quartz family to be healing stones. They use them to help alleviate a broad range of sicknesses and discomforts that range from depression to persistent head aches to the common cold.  While a healing stone is not a substitute for the attention and care of a qualified medical practitioner, they can be used as part of an overall regiment devoted to enhancing inner peace and calm. Of course, there are plenty of people for whom these rocks – be it clear quartz or rose quartz or another quartz – are simply attractive stones that look nice on a collector’s shelf. There is nothing wrong with that! The key is to have fun with rocks – however that makes the most sense for each individual.
