SMTP Settings for Laptops

Category: Computers

We all love our laptops. Wherever we go, we can open it up and have all our files and programs there. We’re used to that computer and love the convenience. Very often, with my laptop, I find myself either at an airport or coffee shop and I used to have a problem sending emails. Getting them was easy but I didn’t know which server to use to send mail. Let’s discuss some options.

Typically, how email is set up is that you get to use the SMTP (sending) server on whichever network you’re on. If you’re at work, you use the SMTP server provided there. If you are at home, you can use the one that your DSL or cable provider gives you. You use that setting once and you’re done. You don’t ever have to change it. With laptops, you change networks. Changing SMTP servers is difficult because you don’t know which one to use in most cases and it’s a pain going into those settings and making the change. Sometimes you even have to restart your email program to get the settings to take effect and then when you change locations, have to do it all over again. Yikes.

Use Mobile SMTP

Well, you’re not alone. Many people are frustrated with all these settings. What they do is use a mobile SMTP service. This fixes everything. You can use this same server at home, at work, at an airport, at a coffee shop or wherever. If you’re connected to the Internet, you can use that same server from anywhere. Simple!

Yes, it’s nothing short of a miracle, we know. This is how it should work, right?

What you do is get a mobile SMTP service provider. There are plans to send as many emails as you want or some plans may limit you but often with a high limit – they just don’t want you sending out too many emails, like a spammer might do. And that brings up a good point…

Reliable Mobile SMTP Service

With a mobile SMTP provider, you get more than just an email sending server but you also get reliability. These providers are good at making sure that your email gets delivered. That’s all they do is send email, so you know they’re focused on doing that. They have plenty of servers and capacity. With some Internet Service Providers (ISPs), they have their SMTP as an afterthought and it’s not their main focus. Your email can sometimes get delayed for hours – even up to 6 hours! This can really muck things up because you’ve sent your email but people aren’t receiving them. Where are they? They’re stuck in a queue, just waiting behind a long line of other emails. That’s not good.

Even if you don’t need mobile SMTP service, you may find that signing on with a dedicated SMTP provider gives you the reliability you need with the emails that you send.
